The Truth About Mattress WarrantiesA Misunderstanding
Consumers don't buy warranties. But they do expect to purchase a quality mattress produced by a reputable manufacturer and sold by a retailer who stands behind their products.
Unfortunately, a typical 10-year manufacturer warranty tends to cause a consumer to believe their mattress should last for at least the same period of time. While many mattresses are often used for 10 years (or longer) consumers may not realize the manufacturer's warranty covers defects only - and does not guarantee the level of comfort or protection against accidental stains or damage.
Manufacturing defects generally reveal themselves within the first 1 - 3 years of mattress use.
Manufacturer warranties also tend to be very "limited" in their coverage with stringent policies that anticipate additional costs to be paid by the consumer. In some instances, consumers have also been required to pay for defect inspections, pick-up and delivery costs for mattress exchanges and even re-stocking charges.
